5 Days Uganda Gorilla and Chimpanzee safari is a grand primate safari offering you an encounter with the endangered mountain gorillas and chimpanzees, this Uganda safari takes you on a visit to Bwindi impenetrable national park a home to largest population of mountain gorillas in the world and Kibale national park.
Bwindi impenetrable national park is situated in the south western region of Uganda dominated by lowland forests and montane forests, the park is a home to 12 habituated gorilla families which are trekked during mountain gorilla trekking experience.
Kibale national park also called Kibale Forest national park is situated in western Uganda, the park is one of the greatest rainforests in Africa famous for hosting the largest population of chimpanzees in East Africa. The park is also a home to other 12 primate species including L’Hoest’s monkeys, Red tailed monkey, blue monkey, black and white colobus monkeys, vervet monkeys, olive baboons, grey checked mangabeys among others.
This safari starts from Kampala and ends in Kampala.

Detailed Itinerary of 5 Days Uganda Gorillas & Chimpanzees Safari
Day 1: Transfer to Kibale National Park
Wake up early for breakfast, you will be picked by your safari-guide driver and for Kibale national park, on your way you will pass via the Lake Albert escarpments enjoying the spectacular views and have a stopover in Hoima for lunch then proceed to the park. You will also enjoy the beautiful vegetation cover and have excellent photography opportunities, in Fort Portal you will enjoy magnificent views of the Rwenzori Mountains. Arrive in the park in the evening, have dinner and stay overnight.
Kibale national park is a forested national park consisting of both montane and lowland forests, the park is a popular primate Uganda safari destination hosting 13 species of primates including the largest population of chimpanzees in East Africa. Primates in Kibale national park include chimpanzees, L’Hoest’s monkeys, Red tailed monkey, blue monkey, black and white colobus monkeys, vervet monkeys, olive baboons, grey checked mangabeys among others.

Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking and Bigodi wetland swamp
Have early breakfast and head to the park’s headquarters for briefing about chimpanzee trekking experience and how to behave while in the presence of chimpanzees, by 08:00 am you will head into the forests of Kibale searching for chimpanzees the closest relatives to humans sharing 98% of their DNA with the humans. While trekking through the forests you will encounter other primates such as black and white colobus monkeys, grey checked monkeys, red tailed monkeys and many birds such as green breasted pitta, rumped tinker bird and yellow spotted nectar among others. Chimpanzee trekking takes approximately 2-4 hours including one hour of staying in the presence of chimpanzees while observing them feed each other, play on tree branches and take beautiful pictures. After the experience you will head back to your lodge for lunch and in the afternoon you will go for a Bigodi wetland swamp for watching of primates and birds. While on a swamp walk you will watch a number of birds such as great blue turaco and many primates such as baboons, black and white colobus monkey among others. After the experience you will head back to your lodge, have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable national park
Have early breakfast, checkout of your lodge and head on a drive to Bwindi impenetrable national park via Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth national park where you will get an opportunity to spot tree climbing lions. You will arrive in the park in the afternoon, check into your lodge and have lunch and later go for a nature walk enjoying the forests and watching various creatures such as Kivu ground thrush, handsome spurfowls, blue headed sunbird, black bee-eater and many primates such as olive baboons among others. In the evening you will head back to your lodge, have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 4: Gorilla trekking
Have early morning breakfast and then proceed to the park’s headquarters for briefing about mountain gorilla trekking where the dos and don’ts will be read to you, you will be assigned a gorilla group to trek and with the guidance of a ranger guide you will trek into the forests of Bwindi looking for mountain gorillas. Mountain gorilla trekking takes approximately 4-8 hours and you go with packed lunch, the terrain is mountainous and rugged making the trek tough.
On sighting the mountain gorillas you are allowed to stay in their presence for one hour while watching the gorillas in their habitat, watch them play with each other and take amazing pictures. After the experience you will head back to your lodge, if you still have energy you will go for a visit in the batwa community where you will be entertained by cultural performances among other activities. In the evening you will head back to your lodge, have dinner and stay overnight.
Day 5: Departure back to Kampala
Have morning breakfast, checkout of your lodge and set off on a drive back Kampala where you will be dropped either at your hotel or at Entebbe international airport for your departure flight back home.
