Gates in Lake Nakuru National Park: Lake Nakuru National Park is one of the most visited game parks in Nakuru, Kenya; boasting a diversity of both birdlife and wildlife. The birdlife is over 400 species and wildlife is over 50 species; all these species make their life in the park’s unique savannah and acacia vegetation and on Lake Nakuru that is part of the park.
Lake Nakuru National Park is also endowed with magnificent landscapes that not only make the park beautiful but also enhance most of the activities done in the park. Located in central Kenya North West of Nairobi city about a 3 to 4 hour drive and about a 30 to 40 min flight, a visit to this park is an opportunity to experience nature, birds and animals in the same place.
The birds in Lake Nakuru National Park include the famous flamingos that flock Lake Nakuru shores painting the whole lake pink. The birds are a constant on the lake and the most popular creature in the park. Other birds in the park include but not limited to:- African fish eagle, Pelicans, Little Rock-Thrush, Pied Kingfisher, Mocking Cliff Chat, White-browed Robin-Chat, Common Greenshank, Pied Avocet, Kittlitz’s Plover, Blacksmith Plover, Brimstone Canary, Coqui Francolin, Montane Nightjar, Hildebrandt’s Francolin, Black Cuckoo, Levaillant’s Cuckoo, African Cuckoo, Cape Teal, Hottentot Teal, Red-billed Teal, Dusky Nightjar, Pearl-spotted Owlet and many more.
The animals in the Lake Nakuru National Park include the endangered and rare black and white Rhinos that live in the park’s Rhino Sanctuary together with the Rothschild’s giraffe. The other animals in the park include but not limited to: – waterbucks, Impalas, baboons, lions, leopards, colobus monkeys, buffaloes, hippos, cheetahs and many more.
The nature experience Lake Nakuru National park is on camping and picnic ventures that guests get a chance to have on the unique sites and landscapes in the park. The park has 3 main raised ridges that offer very spectacular viewpoints for birding, game viewing, and the surrounding flora. These viewpoints are the Baboon view point, Out of Africa Lookout and the Lion Hill. The park is also filled with over 8 campsites that one can visit to have a camping experience to enjoy the skies and the wild up close; these sites are divided between special and public campsites so you always choose what suits your taste and budget.
You can visit Lake Nakuru National Park from any part of Kenya though the main access routes to the park the Nairobi – Nakuru highway or south from Maasai Mara. Whichever route you use you will end up at one of the three gates of Lake Nakuru National Park which are:-
Lake Nakuru National Park Main gate
As the name states this is the main entrance of the park and the most used gate for people visiting and accessing the park. The gate is easily accessed from Nakuru Town, just 4kms from Nakuru Town at the Lake Nakuru north western shores.
At this gate, it’s where the Kenya wildlife services offices are for this park and here you can all the information you need about the park and its different activities. At this office is where you make payments for the park services and acquire the necessary tickets or permits to access those services.
Lake Nakuru National Park Lanet gate
This is the second most used entrance gate of Lake Nakuru National Park, though still not as busy as the main entrance. The Lanet gate is off the Nairobi Nakuru highway and people using this gate don’t go through Nakuru town they just branch off the highway to the gate and to then to the park.
The Lanet gate is near the north Eastern shores of Lake Nakuru, so using this gate gives you quick access to that side of the park.
Lake Nakuru National Park Nderit Gate
The Nderit gate, it’s the less used and less known of gate in Lake Nakuru National Park. Most people will get to know about this gate when they are going to use it and most people the Nderit gate are accessing the Lake Nakuru National park form Maasai Mara or Elementaita.
All these three gates give you access to Lake Nakuru National Park, the choice of which one to use will depend on which part of the park and which services of the park you would you would like to access.
All gates in Lake Nakuru National Park open at 7 am and close at 6 pm East African Time.
